Project Description

Participate in training camp for young journalists

The Association of European Journalists and the Fulbright Commission are organizing a one-week summer training camp for high school students interested in journalism. It is funded by the US Embassy in Bulgaria and will be held between June 28 and July 5 at the American University in Blagoevgrad, and will be the grand prize for authors of the best English language material published on sCOOL Media. The purpose of the camp is to help students further develop their writing and reporting skills. During the training the participants will work on their media projects with the help of Bulgarian and international media experts.

If you want to participate in the training camp, follow these steps:

  • Send journalistic material to sCOOL Media in English by 15 April

The material may be on the topics of the month announced by the editorial staff or on something that you have chosen to reflect. A jury of representatives from sCOOL Media, the Fulbright Commission, the US Embassy and journalists will rank the best materials whose authors will be vying for places in the summer program.

All English language materials submitted since the beginning of 2020 are eligible to apply for the training camp.

  • Please note the following criteria that the competition jury will seek in the materials:
  • Relevance to the topic
  • Use of journalistic style
  • Good material structure
  • Clever use of quotes
  • Engaging the audience
  • Journalistic significance
  • Good interviewing techniques
  • Creativity and originality

Approved interview candidates will receive a call from the jury for the next steps

The organizers cover all travel and accommodation costs for the participants. A compulsory criterion for participation is that the student is in high school. The winners will be announced in June 2020.
